La représentation sociale de l'argent

Abstract

Dans ce travail on a analysé la représentation sociale de l'argent chez des pères et des mères, c'est-à-dire chez des personnes insérées dans le monde du travail ou ayant la responsabilité d'une famille. Comme procédures de relevé, on a utilisé la technique de l'évaluation pairée (échelle de similarité) et le différenciateur sémantique. Au niveau théorique on a intégré des concepts de la perspective génétique (Moscovici, 1984) avec des concepts de la perspective structuraliste (Abric, 1992; Flament, 1994). On a trouvé que le noyau central de la représentation est le binôme argent-pouvoir. On a également trouvé qu'il y a incohérence entre les évaluations fournies au niveau de l'échelle de similarité et les réactions émotionnelles que l'argent produit. Cette incohérence indique la complexité sémantique du concept. On a enfin proposé des procédures pour l'identification du noyau central, du degré de partage, du caractère figuratif de la représentation.

In this study we analyzed the social representation of money in mothers and fathers, namely in people who are part of the labor market or who are responsible for a family. The assessment procedures we used are the technique of pair evaluation (similarity scale) and semantic differential. On the theoretical level, concepts of the genetic perspective (Moscovici, 1984) were integrated with concepts of the structuralistic perspective (Abric, 1992; Flament, 1994). It was found that the central core of the representation is the dual concept money-power. It was also found that there is an inconsistency between the evaluations supplied by the subjects on the similarity scale and the emotional reactions that money produces. This inconsistency indicates the semantic complexity of the concept. Finally, procedures to reveal the central core, the degree of consensus and the figurative character of the representation were proposed.
